Statement of the Chair Daniel J. Horwitz

Statement of the Chair Daniel J. Horwitz

Executive Director Letizia Tagliafierro has notified the Commission that she intends to step down at the end of the month.

Ms. Tagliafierro has provided tremendous leadership and vision to the Commission during a critical period in its development. One of the most significant accomplishments in that time was the investigation into the conduct of then Assembly Member Vito Lopez, led by Ms. Tagliafierro when she was Director of Investigations and Enforcement. It was the first independent investigation of a sitting state Legislator and resulted in a $330,000 fine and his resignation.

She also spearheaded several important initiatives, including the first ethics training for lobbyists, expansion of oversight over local lobbying, and the implementation of new financial disclosure requirements for lobbyists, clients and public officials.

We are grateful for her contribution to the Commission and applaud her commitment to public service.
